Will I Go To Hell For This is a new Danish book from three dedicated authors about graffiti on the Copenhagen S-trains from 1984 to 2009.

After more than two years of work, more than 75 interviews and after selecting over 600 photos, the final result is a book that gives an overview of 25 years of Copenhagen S-train graffiti and offers the reader a rare glimpse into the hidden world of the graffiti writers. The hardcover book contains 264 high quality, full colour pages filled with great photographs, informative text and exciting quotes. The title, Will I Go To Hell For This, refers to a piece painted by Rens in 1993, Rens also supplied the logo and foreword in the book. The subject of Copenhagen S-train graffiti is divided into 14 chapters, ranging from graffiti terms such as Panels, Window-downs, Wholecars, Bombing and Insides to more broad chapters like History, The Life, Yards, Tourists and Resistance.

BLADE has already told his life story through graffiti. Now, more than forty years into his career and armed with an incredible memory, BLADE sits down with Chris Pape to reflect on growing up in the Bronx in the turbulent 1970s, and recounts the highs and lows of his storied career, holding nothing back. BLADE is considered 'The King of Graffiti' because, by 1980, after painting 5000 wildly creative trains, he stopped counting.

This book parallels the New York graffiti movement almost from its inception, moving through its glory years in the mid-1970s, when BLADE earned his title, and ending in the global art scene, where he remains a major presence. BLADE helped New York graffiti become internationally famous by making it look fun, and, for reasons of quantity, quality, and, perhaps above all, for sheer spirit, BLADE may very well be the most popular graffiti artist with his peers. Hard cover, format: 27.9 x 21.6 cm, 653 pictures, 256 pages, language: English. The title, All City Writers, describes a vast research on the Writing movement, focusing particularly on the process of its exportation from New York to all of Europe during the 80s.

The first part of the research analyzes how graffiti in media such as movies, videos, magazines, and books from New York influenced Europe. When images of the New York subway arrived in London, Paris, Munich and Amsterdam, a huge milestone was set: a first generation of European graffiti writers started to follow the letters, the method, the techniques, and the general lifestyle of New York in the 70s.

The book, a massive volume of more than 400 pages, has been conceived as an imaginary newspaper. The chronicles it contains have not been penned by real journalists or narrators, but by people who define themselves as ‘writers’. In this volume, a chorus of uncensored voices in the first person reveal their knowledge of European cities, their infrastructures, interstices and neighbourhoods. This is the generation who in the last two decades of the 20th Century imported the countercultural phenomenon from New York commonly known as “Graffiti”. At the outset, the obsessive repetition of a tag and the search for urban fame became a widespread and spontaneous act, an infinite ego trip that was rarely dissociated from the reproduction of the chosen letters. In these pages, European writers abandon the compulsive act of tagging for a moment, to narrate the city and cast a personal eye – not always detached – on the trains, the streets and the urban surroundings that common citizens generally cannot or will not acknowledge. The chapters that compose this book focus on specific themes, comparable to the sections of a daily newspaper, presented here as special reports on the New York subway, the European network or the first urban strongholds.

The combination of these elements, including, among others, a detailed, in-depth description of the phenomenon’s explosion in Italy during the 90’s, provides a unique history of the variety of pathways they explored and documents the desires of an entire generation intent on describing and interpreting their cultural movement. Through historic and detailed documentation deriving from a singular urban episode, the New York City Subway, All City Writers wants to investigate the evolution and the consequences of a countercultural phenomenon, which in the last decades has provoked a change in the rules of aesthetics and communication in modern day society. Main cities involved: * New York City, US * London, UK * Bristol, UK * Stockholm, Sweden * Helsinki, Finland, * Copenhagen, Denmark * Amsterdam, Holland * Rotterdam, Holland * Hamburg, Germany * Berlin, Germany * Dortmund, Germany * Munich, Germany * Paris, France * Zurich, Switzerland * Basel, Switzerland * Madrid, Spain * Barcelona, Spain * Milan, Italy * Rome, Italy 410 pages with 1230 pictures. Drawing is his true gift. Having bathed in American comics when he was little, Pro176 discovers the world of graffiti in 1989, watching Colt and Mode2 at work in his hometown Choisy-le-Roi. That was the trigger! Pro176 did not choose graffiti, it simply hit him. It did not take long for him to start tagging. In 1995, having already gained a reputation of a professional in the field, Pro176 changed his tag to “Pro” and added “176” in relation to his birth year, but he left out the “9” in order to have a tag with three digits like the masters of New York graffiti from the seventies. In 1996, he joined the Grim Team, and the following year the UltraBoys.

At that time, Pro176 declares a new form of graffiti, an unparalleled style deeply rooted in typography. Aesthetics is futuristic as much as cubist which always revolves around three letters – “P”, “R”, “O”- his trademark. From his early works up to the latest creations, “Cosmonometry” book offers a real delight in large format photographs and in many texts that illuminate the work of this unique graffiti artist that has marked both the French and the European street art scene. Since 2013, Pro176 has also achieved a huge success in galleries. Nevertheless, he remains true to the same direction he took 18 years ago without losing his audience.

This tells us how much Pro176 is inventive artist and capable of constantly renewing himself. The name of this unique style that Pro176 perfected since 1996 is Cosmonometry. The newly published book of the same name is a photographic ode to the work of Pro176 edited by Wasted Talent. Subtitled “A Space Odyssey by Pro176” as an allusion to Kubrick’s cult film, the artist’s favorite, the book has 256 pages and is published in a limited edition of 1000 copies bound in a hard luxury cover. Like its critically celebrated predecessor, Piecebook Reloaded mimics the actual sketchbooks graffiti artists have drawn in and passed around for years. Featuring more than fifty renowned artists, including Seen, Reas, Doc TC5, Veefer, Revolt, Pure, Abby, Ces, Part, Ket, Cope 2, and more, Piecebook Reloaded tells the tale of graffiti's evolution, from adrenalin-fueled street game to acceptance into the gallery world and corporate appropriation. From the mid-1980s through the first decade of the new century, distinctive styles pioneered by generations past took different shapes as new kids stepped up with spray cans in hand, taking what their 'forebombers' created to heights never imagined.

With paper stock identical to that of actual sketchbooks, as well as blank pages for readers to add their own masterpieces to the mix, Piecebook Reloaded delivers the same creative intimacy and honesty that fans of the art found in the first Piecebook's pages. Hardcover 192 pages 28.5cm x 21.5cm.

Where’s Banksy? Fully captures the drama of this illustrious artist’s exploits on the world stage with clever chronologically-arranged maps. The only survey that looks at Banksy’s entire street art career, from his earliest works in 2002 through Dismaland and to the present, the book details his most significant works one piece at a time, with photos and in-depth analysis of the history of each work as well as its often-deeper meaning. A modern day Robin Hood, Banksy’s public persona has grown to mythic proportions, making his actual identity irrelevant. And yet, he can be found in his art — work that is recognizable and accessible — stylized social commentary for the masses.

This stunning new book is the ultimate introduction to the work of this brilliant artist and social pioneer. 224 pages, Hardcover.

Between 2008 and 2010 two already well-known names were hitting trains, walls and all respective web portals with an amount, that was far beyond believe: Taps & Moses. There must be no writer in Europe, who was not catching at least 100 of their pieces by coincidence – and if so, he must be living on the moon or mars, got no internet connection or is just blind. It seems to be part of the program that no one knows who and how many people actually hide behind those aliases.

Using an unbelievable cleverness, the International Topsprayer send 1000 worldwide rolling trains within 1000 days into the game – the boys seemed to be far ahead all party poopers in the game of graffiti and this way they raised the levels on what can be done by a good jump. With a whole lot of style – some thoughts for jokes and a good amount of brains – a nice pile of burners were generated within this time, which will definitely go to the train-graffiti-hall-of-fame in case it’s not already there. Next to the “normal” style-writing pieces, some exceptional productions came to life. It appears that a subway car had one of its doors painted to another spot after being put to sleep in the layup for the night. Rumors are that only 5% of the existing material made its way to the public so far - and that’s why we are very exited to see what the missing 95% keep back for surprises and burners. Hardcover, 288 Pages, Measurements: 30cm x 22cm.

Classic graffiti lettering and experimental typographical forms lie at the heart of street culture and have long inspired designers in many different fields. But graffiti artists, who tend to paint the same letters of their tag again and again, rarely design complete alphabets. Claudia Walde spent over two years collecting alphabets by 154 artists from thirty countries to show the many different styles and approaches to lettering within the graffiti and street art cultures. All of the artists have roots in graffiti.

Some are world renowned such as 123 Klan (Canada), Faith47 (South Africa), and Hera (Germany); others are lesser known or only now starting to emerge. Each artist received the same instructions: design all twenty-six letters of the Latin alphabet within the limits of a single page of the book. How they approached this task and selected the media with which to express their ideas was entirely up to them, and the results encompass not just street art but sketches, sculpture, digital art, and photography. Hardcover, 320 pages 28.5cm x 22cm.

Official Metalface Version, including the Occult Hymn EP available on vinyl for the first time, and two previously unreleased tracks. Back in 2005, super producer Danger Mouse and masked hip-hop supervillain DOOM came together for The Mouse And The Mask, a collaborative album released under the name DangerDOOM. Among DOOM’s most successful projects both critically and commercially, the album was inspired by Cartoon Network’s late-night Adult Swim programming slate, and includes appearances from several Adult Swim characters, including Aqua Teen Hunger Force, Space Ghost, Harvey Birdman, and more. The Mouse And The Mask also features guest spots from Talib Kweli, Ghostface Killah, and Cee Lo Green. This deluxe 3xLP vinyl reissue courtesy of DOOM’s own label Metal Face Records also contains several bonus cuts not on the original album. The full 7-track 2006 DangerDOOM EP Occult Hymn is included, as well as two previously unreleased tracks, making this the definitive DangerDOOM collection. “My sound is definitely boom bap, I could never deny that.

But I feel like it’s an updated sound,” says Marco, born Marco Bruno, who started making music in 1999 after buying an MPC drum machine with student loan money. The MPC and a pack of Newports as his sole accomplices, Marco made a bold move to NYC in 2001.

As an assistant Engineer at renowned recording studio, The Cutting Room, MP honed technical skills and got to know some of the rap game’s finest as he refined his production chops. The Marco Polo production credit quickly began to hold more and more weight, with production placement on projects from legends such as Masta Ace and Boot Camp Click. MP’s discog of features, collaborations and solo projects grew steadily, leading to the 2007 release of the critically acclaimed “Port Authority.” This debut production album – featuring a who’s-who of MC heavyweights including Large Professor, Kool G Rap and Buckshot – was a career milestone that claimed his place as one of the new school’s most respected beatmakers. Fueled by the excitement of these collaborations and the exposure they have provided, his focus remains on his love of producing songs with his favorite MC’s and DJ’s.

Fall 2013 will see the release of the long-awaited, most anticipated follow-up production album “PA2: The Director’s Cut.” The lead single is a tribute to the late Keith Elam of Gang Starr, known to most as Guru, who passed away on April 19, 2010 due to complications from cancer. In addition, Marco reunites Organized Konfusion on “3-O-Clock” and King Tee and MC Eiht bring the hydroponic flows on “West Coast Love.” On the aptly titled “Astonishing” Large Professor, Inspectah Deck, O.C. And Tragedy Khadafi trade bars over a monster beat featuring scratches by DJ Revolution. “The album is called ‘PA2: The Directors Cut,’ because it’s 19 songs.

If you’ve got A.D.D. This is not the album for you.” Tracklisting 1. “3-O-Clock” Featuring. Organized Konfusion (Pharoahe Monch & Prince Po) 2. Slaine, Celph Titled & ill Bill 3. “Earrings Off” Featuring.

Following the success of King Of Rock [MOVLP675], Raising Hell (1986) raised more than just a massive revenue stream by selling over three million albums worldwide. It's a well known fact that the record, produced by Rock/Hip Hop production pioneer Rick Rubin, raised the bar for Hip Hop albums in general. Musically it indeed raises hell, being crammed to the brim with hard-hitting hooks, loops, samples, scratches, inventive tong-twisting braggadocio and catchy choruses. Too many classics on this one: 'Peter Piper' with the massive Bob James bell drum sample, 'It's Tricky' (putting The Knack's 'My Sharona' sample to extremely good use) and the song that popularized a certain brand of shoes in the Hip Hop community, 'My Adidas'. However the album's flag bearer is undoubtedly 'Walk This Way' which literally rendered Aerosmith's original version obsolete.

Viewing from an eighties Hip Hop perspective, the collaboration with Aerosmith seemed rather unusual to say the least, but at the same time it proved that Hip Hop and Rock are merely next door neighbors. The album's timeless quality surfaces in its ability to bring together masses of fans of both genres.

'If one is ever curious of the music that came out of the tough street punk scene of Philadelphia fifteen years ago, one could put on a Virus record. One seeking some insight to the way of living in the humble streets of Jamaica in the seventies, could put on a Maytals or a Marley record. It is difficult to give these records as much as a vague listen without feeling at least a hint of their lives in your presence. Similarly, if one seeks a record that will give them a somewhat surreal, yet accurate experience of the life in the modern age, one needs to look no further than Strange Journey. Ignition, an introductory track, is a thirty-second mission briefing, which commences the lyrical journey seeking to try and explore the complexities of the human mind and spirit of today’s world. The beat the drops for the first musical track of the LP, and who better to introduce such an ambitious and surreal lyrical journey than Del the Funky Homosapien? Del and Natti of CunninLynguists do well in setting the stage for the production in the track “Strange Universe”, and they do well in letting the listener know that the journey will in fact be very strange.

The next couple of songs focus on contrasting aspects of urban life, with “In the City” describing the many dark aspects of city life over a spacy and mellow instrumental, while “South California” focuses on the more positive aspects, specifically the beautiful women of Southern California, on a beat similar in vibes to the former, with an added Beatles-esque feel. The following track “Drunk Dial” is a standout track in the album, a comedic portrayal of a situation that many of us are much too familiar with today, resulting from the combination of alcohol and the cell phone. Guided by Kno of CunninLynguists’ incredibly catchy chorus, the song will have you vibing out to the entire album. The next few tracks, “The Morning”, “Innerspace”, “Guide You Through the Shadows”, and “Castles” further explore the human soul through varied ways, with strong lyricism focusing on aspects such as sex, age, isolation, and guidance out of dark roads in life, and how all these things play out in and affect one’s life. “Kings” is the next track and stands out as what might be one of the strongest tracks on the record. The excellent lyrics are presented with excellent delivery, accompanied by a very strong hook by Sheisty Khrist and backed by a beat that manages to stay consistent in musical style, yet create a much larger feel in what might be the climax of the album.

The pace of the record begins to slow down as the end of the record approaches. “Hot”, “The Format”, “Dying Breed”, and “Makes You Wanna Cry” provide a pleasurable listening experience with a more relaxing and smaller feel, assisted by lyrically focusing on the feelings of helplessness commonly present in today’s rapidly changing world, corrupted with violence, religious conflict, technology, etc. “Beyond the Sun” proceeds to add a bit of light to the dark theme of the previous tracks, and is a more hopeful and positive look at the world in which one has the privilege to live in. The power and the artistry of Strange Journey Volume Three is a breath of fresh air to not only the hip-hop community, but the music community in general.

The album is a genuine piece of modern art, as it does an exceptional job in trying to make sense of the senseless and changing world around us, something that is universally strived for across genres and achieved by few. The music of the record are worthy of praise themselves, as one would be able to listen through an instrumental version of the album as easily as the original. Blank Face is South Central hip-hop star ScHoolboy Q's follow-up to his 2014 major label debut, Oxymoron, after a pair of independent releases on Top Dawg Entertainment, including Habits & Contradictions (2012) and Setbacks (2011). The new album features guest appearances by Kanye West ('That Part'), Vince Staples ('Ride Out'), Jadakiss ('Groovy Tony/Eddie Kane'), E-40 ('Dope Dealer'), Tha Dogg Pound ('Big Body'), Anderson.Paak ('Blank Face'), Miguel and Justine Skye ('Overtime'), with production by Sounwave, Swizz Beatz, Metro Boomin, Southside and Cardo, along with Nez & Rio, DJ Dahi and members of TDE's Digi+Phonics team. The critics have raved about the album, with Pitchfork's 8.3 review calling it 'a collection of catchy, urgent gangsta rap songs that show the South Central native at his charismatic best, gallows humor and tough talk failing to obscure a humane core.' The Vulture's Craig Jenkins called 'Ride Out,' Q's collaboration with Vince Staples, 'five minutes of these two cripping out of control over TDE maestro Sounwave's evil-robot disaster-movie production certainly does the trick.' Rolling Stone's 3.5-star review hailed the new collection as 'trapped and haunted.his music is richer for its resistance to escapist fantasy.'

Blue Temple, Earlier this year Ears aka Daniel O’Toole released an Ep called ‘Floating Tokyo’ inspired by the atmosphere of Tokyo city. Oddisee is an everyman with extraordinary talent. Both a rapper chronicling the perils and joys of ordinary existence, and a virtuosic producer attuned to the vibrations of how life actually sounds. But don’t mistake the Odd Tape for the noise of birds chirping, idle chatter, or car alarms; it’s that internal soul-jazz reverberating at the back of your brain.

For the last decade, the Mello Music Group artist has alternated between instrumental albums, full-length rap records, and his role as one-third of Diamond District. The Odd Tape is technically the former—there are no vocals—but if you call this an instrumental album, you might as well say the same about Bitches Brew. After a decade making music, the Prince Georges, Md.-raised and Brooklyn-based has transcended influences, comparisons and genre. The Odd Tape showcases the range of a composer bending hip-hop, soul, and jazz into singular form, tapping into that same emotional Fort Knox that animates all wordless choruses.

The Odd Tape revolves around the rhythms of the artist’s daily life. It starts in the morning with “Alarmed,” that sounds like if Shuggie Otis did a psychedelic eye-opening cover of Nas’ “Shootouts.” It rolls through “Right Side of the Bed,” with its glitter-gold sax lines, loose drums, and sunshine-slanting-through-the-blinds keyboards. Oddisee went from sampling to creating the eternal sounds of his original inspirations. You can hear older gods like Roy Ayers, Bob James, and Fela, but mostly you hear Oddisee continue to come into his own.

As Pitchfork described his previous album, 2015’s The Good Fight: “the music feels distinctly international and unhindered, far removed from the straight-ahead boom-bap he used to make. He’s always created on his own terms, but [this] feels like a hearty 'fuck you' to prevailing groupthink and the industry’s creative limitations.” But this record marks another ascension. It glides, meditates, and simmers from “Alarmed” to “Still Sleeping.” The soundtrack to his coffee in the morning, a trip to the corner store for fresh groceries, producing in the afternoon, cruising his bike through the city for inspiration, late afternoon song writing, stepping out into the evening with friends, hookah on the rooftop in Brooklyn, and settling into the dream world again. This is the Odd Tape, life as you’ve never heard it before. THE FOUR OWLS ARE BACK!!!

Kings Konekted hail from the tumultuous terrain of Brisbane’s western suburbs, and follow in the tradition of great rap duos that boast equally skilled MCs with distinct and complementary flows. Think Erick Sermon and PMD, Havoc and Prodigy, Ghost and Rae.

And like their forebears, Konekted’s impermeable slang reflects the place where they dwell. Their dialect is opaque and territorial, painting unmistakable visuals with every breath. Replace the US East Coast’s bleak winter with the sticky summers of Brisbane’s west line and you’re part way there. Every verse lets you into the back seat of the Falcon, puts you privy to murky in-jokes and felonious proposals. Following their rapturously received mixtape Trails to the Underlair in 2009 and the incendiary 2013 EP The Campaign on Class A Records, Dontez and Culprit signed to Unkut Recordings, where they’ve become the first act outside of the core Lyrical Commission crew to release an album, ably taking the torch for the label’s long-term protocol of quality over quantity. Corrupted Citizens, the duo’s debut full-length proper is almost entirely an in house affair. Every track is produced by Dontez, save one each by Must (‘Heat Conductors’) and the legendary Prowla (the Culprit solo ‘Such is Life’), and even those are cut from the same cloth of narcotic loops as Donnie’s own increasingly refined production.

Guest verses are scarce – only summoning faithful retainer Suss One and Unkut boss Trem One for respective sixteens. Trem has also overseen and executive produced the whole repertoire, assembling the parts and executing cuts alongside Stricknine and DJ 2Buck, while Abella Stone exhales ethereal vocals on the closing epic ‘The Hand Dealt’. Here’s where we let you in on a secret: Most hip hop in this country is bullshit – not because of faulty accents, or the feeble timbre of voices or lackluster subject matter – but because the rappers are not poets.

Real wordsmiths craft lines that fuck with the chemistry of your auditory cortex when they hit. Very few names aside, almost no antipodean MCs transcend the mundane with genuinely unique verbal arrangements that give you that feeling.

Bottom line: Culprit and Dontez got that. You can tell by the solidarity, conviction and poise these men muster with every couplet as they roll with assured menace through the length of album. They unpick life at the seams and unpack the nuances of the daily operations of the real Australia, tapping their Indigenous and the immigrant bloodlines and their wider circles of comrades and cutthroats. The pair’s exemplary wordplay is matched by a forensic attention to detail in structure.

Rarely content to simply trade off sixteen-bar verses, they have authentic pass-the-mic empathy. Witness it in full flight on ‘Misconceptions’, a jaw-droppingly gymnastic five-and-a-half minutes of spits with barely a breath drawn. They do it again while decoding their speech for the listener on ‘Windtalkers’. A homage to Big L’s iconic ‘Ebonics’, it hews close to its forefather – the cadence as well as the concept immediately recalls that classic – but the Chief and the Captain make it their own. Elsewhere, lead track ‘Value of Adaption’ is accompanied by a cinematic clip executed in crisp monochrome by Unkut visualists Heata and Josh Davis.

It’s calm, collected and crucial to the bigger Corrupted picture. Queensland: beautiful one day, a seething hotbed of corruption the next. Kings Konekted is buying history. If crews knew. Tracklisting: Side A 1.

Bon Voyage (feat. inDJnous) Blasphemy, the collaborative album from esteemed Mello Music Group producer Apollo Brown and Ras Kass, is a thought-provoking and highly personal treatise on the unspoken. The sub-rattling and operatic opener “How to Kill God,” a scathing indictment of major religions and the transgressions enacted in their name, serves as a statement of purpose.

No “ism” is out of bounds, no topic too untoward. Whatever you hold sacred isn’t above aggressive inquiry.

Behind the boards, Apollo Brown orchestrates with divine aural vision. Though Blasphemy is his first album with a west coast rapper, he doesn’t retread g-funk synth grooves.

He also forgoes the minimal, rubbery bounce popular with the current crop of west coast talent. Amidst a sea of production crafted for the drug-addled turn up, his work is a life preserver, saving ardent hip-hop fans with hard-hitting beats made buoyant by donuts of soul and blues. On his deftly layered suites, drums hit with the force of an unabridged Bible to the dome, the samples masterfully selected and utilized. With Blasphemy, Brown has created MPC gospel, sonic scripture. In his seminal memoir Soul on Ice, Eldridge Cleaver wrote, “All the gods are dead except the god of war.” Ever since Ras Kass titled his 1996 opening salvo after Cleaver’s book, the critically revered Carson, CA rapper has waged verbal warfare against all those with aims of obscuring the truth. Rappers, preachers, politicians – none have been spared from the wrath of his sharp, illuminating rhymes.

When not eviscerating MCs and poking holes in theologies, Ras Kass surrounds himself with a rogue’s gallery of decorated veterans. Pharoahe Monch, Rakaa Iriscience, Xzibit, and Royce Da 5’9” are among the handful of the elite lyricists present. Each delivers their singular bars in top form, making the songs on which they appear some of the best posse cuts you’ll hear in 2014.

Above all, this album displays Apollo Brown & Ras Kass’ undeniable synergy. Their sacred writ is the same, their blasphemy for those who want to think as they nod to the rhythm. When Ras Kass crucifies supposed facts over Apollo’s beats, it’s clear he is the West Coast’s preeminent philosopher. When Apollo’s blaring suites soothe your soul, it’s an ontological fact that he ranks among the best producers in the game. With Blasphemy, the duo has delivered the truth. On Black Milk’s 6th solo rap LP, If There’s A Hell Below, Black continues the narratives he started on his 2013 release No Poison No Paradise.

This time, rather than speaking through the character Sonny Jr., Black paints pictures from a first person perspective of someone raised and living in one of America’s toughest cities, and the ups and downs of pursuing a career in the arts. The stories reflect how he and the people where he’s from feel or have felt - if there’s a hell below, maybe we’re already in it. Everyday Was (ft. What It’s Worth 03. Leave the Bones Behind (ft. He’d more logically orbit throughout the galaxy in a gleaming chrome spaceship, teaching the stars and aliens new forms of originality.

He is too weird to live, too rare to die, too uniquely ultra-magnetic to be accurately mimicked. Released on Mello Music Group, Time? Is the latest dimensional warp from hip-hop’s premiere astral traveler. His union with MMG producer L’ Orange finds him exploring uncharted terrain: choppy volcanic rock planets, ice glacier moons, new surgical procedures, and fresh rappers to toss into the ether. The scalpel remains eternally sharp. The themes aren’t dissimilar from his past opuses as Dr.

Octagon and Black Elvis. But L’ Orange’s production appropriately coaxes the most appealingly baffling gonzo vision from Keith since his days collaborating with Dan “The Automator” Nakamura. This isn’t the noir-rap of L’Orange’s previous work, but something atmospheric, ethereal, and absurd. Yet there’s a sense of tradition within the playfulness. The beats glow with radioactive grit. Hard enough to knock from your car speakers, cinematic and plutonium-propelled enough to transport you to strange terra firma.

Buck Rodgers movie serials meet boom-bap. And along for the odyssey are a cast of the best underground MC’s of the last decade: Blu, Open Mike Eagle, Mr.

Lif, J-Live, and more. But the star is Keith Thornton, offering more ammunition for his spot as the most creative rapper of all-time, offering more amazing adventures in the future. While other veterans often look back, Keith always knew that space ships don’t come equipped with rear view mirrors. Every thought is a different action. He’s easing into new zones, encountering polygonic time travelers, surrounded by enemies, blasting them with radioactive wave forms.

L’Orange is the gunner on the flank, lacing the legend with synthesizers set to stun, great wheeling humid organs, and sad exotic jazz riffs. These are space symphonies and occult odysseys, fuel for wanderers, wonderers, and all the a-likes.

Welcome to the new world, even more sinister and suspenseful than the last one. We live in astonishing times: abstract, absurd, and indelibly Kool. CONCEPT NOTES: The album is about a man in the early 20th century who is a bored explorer and finds technology to go into the future - but he does so without any sense of adventure. He travels through time as if he is traveling to Tuscaloosa. He is then hospitalized as insane and then goes into suspended animation (a metaphor for his subconscious while sedated in the hospital).

The adventure begins only after the album is finished, the record is all the thoughts and introspection before things really begin. Hip hop royalty Blackalicious release their first album in ten years - 'Imani, Vol. 1' - which finds the California-bred duo on top musical form and lives up to their hard-won reputation as one of the genre's most progressive and forward-thinking creative forces. The album stays true to rapper Gift of Gab's clever tongue-twisting wordplay and DJ/producer Chief Xcel's unique melodies delivered via a mix of production and live instruments.

1' - the first of a trilogy to be released over the course of two years - is Blackalicious' most ambitious and accomplished effort to date, maintaining the spirituality, introspection and positivity that are the twosome's trademarks. The circumstances around its creation offer one of the most inspiring examples of triumph over adversity in modern music with Imani, Vol. 1's birth cycle coinciding with Gab's ongoing fight for his health after suffering kidney failure and his continuing dialysis treatment while searching for a kidney donor. The pair is joined on 'Imani, Vol.

1' by an esteemed cast of guest performers: Big Boi and Kanye West collaborator Bosko on 'Inspired By,' Afro-pop diva Zap Mama on the title track, Amde Hamilton of legendary '60s rap progenitors the Watts Prophets on 'Faith,' singer-songwriter Imani Coppola on 'The Sun,' underground hip-hop duo LifeSavas on 'That Night,' neo-blues auteur and NPR Tiny Desk winner Fantastic Negrito on 'Love's Gonna Save the Day,' Myron of retro-soulsters Myron & E on 'On Fire Tonight,' and the all-star hip-hop combo of Lateef, Lyrics Born, funk band Monophonics, and DJ D Sharp on 'Alpha and Omega.' Blackalicious is known for Gab's 'astonishing verbal dexterity and enunciation' (Pitchfork) and 'Xcel's utility beats and turntabilism' (Rolling Stone). Their own work has been sampled by Rae Sremmurd, honored by Macklemore, and rapped by Daniel Radcliffe on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon. 1' is their fourth LP after 1999's 'Nia' (Swahili for purpose'), 2002's 'Blazing Arrow', and 2005's 'The Craft'. Championing his fifth solo album in a consistent and longstanding career, Apathy delivers a plate served up with only the finest ingredients that you'd expect from a seasoned lyricist and producer.

On this outing, Ap takes you through the perils of the current state of hip hop, corporate phonies and idiotic pop culture. Sprinkle in some trippy tales with vivid imagery plus the right amount of braggadocio verbiage, and the Demigodz frontman brings you full circle via industry rule number 4080. Listeners of this record will become cautious of who they shake hands with.

Production duties are handled entirely by Apathy himself, captivating fans on a ride fully orchestrated in his own creative vision while bringing along a handful of carefully selected guest emcees. Having experienced firsthand what it's like to start independently from the dirt, then be entrenched in a major label contract during the peak of hip hop's commercial success, to touring alongside RIAA certified diamond-selling mega rockstars - Apathy's knowledge and wittyness on the subject spills out to be pure audio gold. After years of producing beats for himself, Demigodz, Army of the Pharaohs, R.A.

The Rugged Man, Cypress Hill, Ras Kass, Styles of Beyond and many others, Apathy has finally put together a collection of 15 all original instrumentals. Painstakingly sequenced, mixed and engineered to keep your speakers thumping, this sub-aquatic album showcases Ap's sharp skills behind the boards as he delivers his best sonic works without words.

Whether you just like to vibe out to hip hop beats or practice your own MC skills over chunky production, this project is a welcomed refreshment in the instrumental hip hop genre. Maybe you forget about the unprecedented sixteen-year gap between albums and all the revolutions the world has made during that time. Forget about 'Since I Left You' perfectly capturing the hazy millennial zeitgeist and how the band's rare live shows invariably ended in total chaos or broken limbs. Constructed from woozy harmonics, infectious rhythm tracks and the dangled clauses of archival field recordings, 'Wildflower' feels almost narcotic when followed from start to end (this is categorically not a record to play on shuffle). On repeated listens, the record gradually reveals a whole new world of hobo folklore, comedic pioneers and traveller musicians.

'Wildflower' – the album – is nothing less than a journey into a kaleidoscopic secret world of sound; a wormhole that leads to a place most of us didn't even realize existed. It's a timeless, untouchable, gloriously affectionate celebration of those musical mavericks who never gave a damn what anyone else thought. Banksy - Wall and Piece.

Artistic genius, political activist, painter and decorator, mythic legend or notorious graffiti artist? The work of Banksy (Cut It Out, Existencilism) is unmistakable, except maybe when it's squatting in the Tate or New York's Metropolitan Museum. Banksy is responsible for decorating the streets, walls, bridges and zoos of towns and cites throughout the world. Witty and subversive, his stencils show monkeys with weapons of mass destruction, policeman with smiley faces, rats with drills, and umbrellas. His statements, incitements, ironies and epigrams are by turns intelligent and cheeky, commenting on everything from the monarchy and capitalism to the war in Iraq and farm animals. His identity remains unknown, but his work is prolific.

The best of his work -- old and new -- is collected here in a big, fully illustrated colour volume. This softcover edition has 10% more crap! 'There's no way you're going to get a quote from us to use on your book cover.' - Metropolitan Police spokesperson. Lord Steppington Instrumentals, Featuring rapper/producer Evidence and producer/rapper the Alchemist, Step Brothers are a hip-hop super duo who came together while Evidence was working with his former group, Dilated Peoples. The Alchemist also provided production on Evidence's solo debut, 2007's The Weatherman LP, but their collaborative name did not come together until a year later when Step Brothers landed a credit on Evidence's The Layover EP.

The project dropped their official debut album, Lord Steppington, on the Rhymesayers label in early 2014. The first installment of the One-derful! Collection focuses on the namesake imprint of this legendary Chicago label group – to be followed by compilations of the Mar-V-Lus, M-Pac!, Halo, Midas, and Toddlin' Town sub-labels. It marks the first in-depth study of what was once one of Chicago’s most prominent African-American run labels. Within the grooves of these 25 tracks lie orchestrated soul classics from McKinley Mitchell and Betty Everett, raucous mid-1960s R&B dancers from the Five Du-Tones which shake every bone, superb deep soul ballads from Otis Clay, and extraordinary group harmony sides from The Sharpees and The Admirations, plus 12 tracks that have never been issued!

Central to One-derful! Is the Leaner family. By 1962 when brothers George and Ernie Leaner started One-derful! Records, they were revered figures on Chicago's Record Row and beyond. They distributed material from labels like Motown and Stax and One-derful! Attracted top talent. It wasn't uncommon for a WVON DJ to help One-derful!

Sign their newest discovery, or for their singers, musicians, songwriters, or producers to have Chess or Motown on their resumes. Nearly 20 years prior, George and Ernie started work at their sister's Groove Record Shop. Before long, George was an assistant to legendary blues producer Lester Melrose, and later the brothers helped run Parkway Records – recording historic 78s featuring Little Walter and Muddy Waters. They did all of this before launching United Record Distributors in 1950 – regarded as the nation's first black owned record distributor. In addition, their uncle Al Benson was the most influential Radio DJ on Chicago's South Side. His on-air support and occasional partnerships with the Chess brothers proved crucial to their early success. He also helped many DJs get their start, including Vivian Carter who later formed Vee-Jay Records.

In fact, United Record Distributors hosted her wedding. The Leaner name also turns up in connection with many of the greats in blues and soul: George Leaner produced an early release for Berry Gordy's Tamla label, and in the 1970s Ernie Leaner and Stax's Al Bell partnered to form Ernie's Onestop and a chain of Record World stores. The Leaner family were among the most important black businessmen of music's golden era, yet much of their history has only been superficially documented until now. Between 1962 and 1971, the One-derful! Family of labels released 180+ 45s of stunning soul, funk, and gospel. Over two years of painstaking research and work, including countless hours spent cataloging, transferring, and mastering 250 of the label's tapes, has contributed to an amazingly extensive reissue collection.

In addition, some of the world's leading experts have contributed liner notes and interviewed virtually every known surviving artist, producer, and otherwise involved party. In total, the six volumes of the One-derful! Collection include 12 LPs/6 CDs with 147 tracks, 57 which were never issued, and 144 pages of 12” x 12” liner notes stuffed full of rare and never before seen photos and memorabilia. Spanning 1962 to 1971, these compilations bring forth a wealth of overlooked and never before heard recordings and history. The Ecology is the second studio album by American hip hop recording artist Fashawn, out now on Nas' Mass Appeal Records.

The album's production, similar to his debut album Boy Meets World (2009), will be handled primarily by his longtime collaborator and record producer Exile. In 2014, Fashawn signed a recording contract with Nas' new label Mass Appeal Records for the distribution of the album. The title and concept of the album entails exploring the 'ecology' of one's environment: the people, objects, and events surrounding one's life, the things that provoke human behavior, how individual choices lead to different paths, and how everyone and everything is ultimately interconnected. Long awaited cassette release of How It Should Sound Volumes 3, 4 & 5 includes 33 instrumentals produced, mixed & arranged by Damu The Fudgemunk. This unique triple pack features 3 neon green tapes in a clear oversized case with a transparent insert. “I just want to do hip-hop the way I hear it in my head.

It’s about a mood and what records I find: I love digging and finding things that I want people to hear. That’s the beauty of this art form to me. I have a bit of every great producer rolled into me and it’s their approach to manipulating drum breaks and samples that really opened up my ear. I really don’t consider my sound a throwback; I consider it a method of production, a distinct approach to making music.” - Damu The Fudgemunk Redefinition Records is proud to present these timeless instrumentals from Washington D.C.’s finest, Damu The Fudgemunk. Produced mostly between 2004 and 2007, “How It Should Sound” brings together archived material that as yet has only existed on floppy disks stacked in between an oft-frequented MPC and an everexpanding library of vintage vinyl. Don’t get it twisted though: What you now have in your possession is far more than a collection of sketches. HISS represent a body of lovingly crafted material that bears all the hallmarks of Damu’s signature aesthetic.

Crunchy drums bolster intricately woven narratives of soul-infused samples in compositions that thump and groove all at the same time. Horns appear from nowhere before dissolving sumptuously into the mix. Layers are steadily unveiled only to gradually fold back in on themselves.

But hey, you knew that already, right? In case you hadn’t noticed, this is how it should sound. After releasing classic albums by Rashad & Confidence, Beneficence and Purpose & Confidence during the last couple years, Ill Adrenaline Records strikes again with another powerful and mind blowing full length. Hailing from Lynn, Massachusetts, the Tragic Allies trio Purpose, Estee Nack and Code Nine team up with Queensbridge veteran Tragedy Khadafi aka Intelligent Hoodlum to form the group '7 G.E.M.S.' The album entitled 'Golden Era Music Sciences' delivers that raw, sinister, dusty and mellow-dramatic 90's boom-bap retro style sound, laying the perfect platform for the message of enlightenment, elevation and expression the group offers its listeners on this 16-track heater.

While super-producer Confidence handled all the production on the critically acclaimed underground classic 'The Purpose of Confidence' (Ill Adrenaline Records, 2012), Purpose just concentrated on showcasing his excellent and sharp lyrical rhyme skills. But this time the Tragic Allies frontman (who already worked with Killah Priest, Big Shug, Bronze Nazareth, Epidemic, etc.) is not only able to shine on the mic, he also takes charge of stellar beats for the entire album. Featuring underground icons Roc Marciano, Shabaam Sahdeeq, Killah Priest along with up-and-coming lyricist Relentless and top-notch beatboxer Choppa, 'Golden Era Music Sciences' stands for its 100% trademark Tragic Allies sound, that, infused with the mind and vibe of pioneer and Queensbridge legend Tragedy Khadafi, makes this album look like a sure bet for one of 2013's hottest rap underground albums.
